-----------------Basic Terminology--------------------

Sun- The Tribe's reference to a month.

Sunhigh- The highest point the sun rises during the day. We refer to it as noon.

Convention- The gathering of all three Tribes beside the Oasis. It occurs once every three suns at sunhigh when the faint outline of the full moon can be seen beside the sun. Each Tribe's head shares the news, problems, and wages of war here.

Wanderer- A lone cat or a band of cats that live outside of the Tribes. For the most part they are evil and start wars between the Tribes over stretches of territory often. Exiled cats usually join these bands or form one of their own.

Dry Season- The Tribe's reference to summer and fall. Hardly any rain falls during this period. It is the hardest time, the sun heats up the savanna and prey is hard to catch.

Wet Season- The Tribe's reference to winter and spring. Clouds cool off the territory and the much needed rain occurs often. Prey and vegetation is abundant and the Tribes thrive. Occasional floods provide problems.

The Burrow/Tangle/Cove-
These are the names for the Tribe's camp, named after the areas they are located in. Whenever speaking of the camp, it is referred to as one of these names, depending on the Tribe. There are no set dens here, yet it is customary that mothers and their young along with the tribe's head and mate sleep in the most protected area.

--------------Tribe Rankings----------------

Young- A cat who is still under the care of their mother due to their young age. Depending on the abilities and development of the kitten, they can remain with this title for up to eight suns.

Novice- Any cat who is being taught the basics for hunting and fighting by a full-fledged member. Usually this supervised training lasts for only a few suns until the novice knows all of the basics and will perfect and create their own advanced moves.
(Apprentices to the Clans.)

Juvenile- A Tribe member who has not yet become a full member. They are still perfecting their fighting and hunting techniques. However, they are no longer being taught by a full-fledged member.
(Semi-apprentice.)

Full-fledged Member- An older cat who has been granted permission by the Head of Tribe to end their self training. After being critiqued and accepted, they are allowed to carry out full duties and take on a novice if asked.

Mother-
A she-cat who is pregnant. Although they are not confined to the main camp, during the later times of their pregnancy, they must be accompanied by another cat outside of it. Once she has her kits, she must remain inside the camp until they are able to become novices. When that time comes, she has the choice to train one of them.

Head of Tribe- Either due to heritage or impressive skills, the head of Tribe is the leader. In all matters he or she will have the final say. If he or she has kits, he/she will be blessed with a litter of three; always two sons and one daughter.

Head of Tribe's Mate- Basically, this is the mate of the head of Tribe. They are a step up in importance from full-fledged members. Sometimes their mates will consult in them for advice about the Tribe. During a Convention, they sit in front of the Tribes with the head of Tribe.

---------------------Native Enemies--------------------------

Wild Pigs/warthogs- Most of the time roaming outside of the territories, these enemies can stray into them. Young pigs/warthogs are easily driven out, but adults are very dangerous. They can be up to four times larger then a cat and a full grown can crush you with it's hoofs. Some have tusks, and others do not. None of the Tribes have figured out why, though.

Meerkats- Larger-sized rodents that live in burrows. Alone, they are not much of a threat, but in groups they are dangerous. Fairly peaceful creatures if you stay away from their underground cities. It is almost impossible to sneak up on a family in secret, they always have guards scanning the area.

Zorillas- Skunk-like creatures that make dens in rocky crevices or burrows. All in all, they are just skunks that have adapted to the life on the savanna. They are solitary creatures, it is rare to see more then one together.

Cape Hunting Dog-(also knows as a Wild Dog) Smaller then the larder breeds of domestic dogs, these wild canines hunt in packs. They are very quick and one bite with their jaws can kill a cat. They are very unintelligent however. Usually roaming the barren plains, it is unlikely to see them in heavily vegetated areas. They venture into these areas during the dry season when other prey is scarce.

Zebras/Gazelles- Docile, these large hoofed animals roam the plains in great numbers. One will not get injured if they stay away. They are deadly when running and can crush and kill a cat in an instant.

Snakes/Scorpions- Fast and deadly, these are animals to avoid. A scorpion sting can kill within a few days if not treated immediately. Snake bites can also wound you and the few that are poisonous must be seen to immediately.

----------------------------Prey----------------------------------

Dwarf Mongoose- Fairly small animals that live in forest areas. They can be caught any time of the day, some being nocturnal and others active during the day. They are not as commonly caught as the mouse.

Jack Rabbit- The jack rabbit is a large rabbit with abnormally long legs. They are very quick and hard to catch, but provide a large meal afterwards. It is near impossible to catch them in a densely covered area. They are mostly found on the plains and require great speed and power to catch.

Mice- Mice are the most commonly found prey in all of the territories. They can vary in color from black, brown, gray, or white, depending on the season and species. They are very easily caught and are commonly caught near vegetation or rocks.

Redbilled Oxpecker- These red-beaked birds are very common. Straying away from the large animals they perch atop to search for food, they become an easy target. Most commonly found during the rainy season.

Moles- Although large, moles are very slow and almost blind. Between a group of cats, they can be killed with effort. With a powerful swing you have to be careful which direction you attack them from or you may end up with an injury.

Crows- Crows are black birds that can be found in swarms in the plains. Being quite stupid, they are a quick and easy catch.

Fish- Varying in sizes, fish are found in the waters of Dene Tribe territory mainly. They are tricky to catch but are a tasty meal. Other territories have smaller fish.
